NEW YORK, March 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) will honor member firms for outstanding engineering projects in the United States and abroad at its gala annual dinner dance April 1 in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

Twenty-four Diamond Awards, the highest award at the state level, will be presented for projects in several categories ranging from Environmental, Water and Wastewater, Transportation, Structural Systems and Building Technology Systems to Studies, Research and Surveying and Mapping. Seventy Platinum, Gold and Silver Awards will also be awarded.

Charles Franzese, president of ACEC New York, in anticipating the evening's events, said, "Every day we are reminded that engineering and technology are major contributors to our standard of living and the health and safety of our citizens. If anyone doubts the importance of engineering and technology, they need only observe the value emerging nations such as China and India are placing on educating as many engineers as possible as quickly as possible. The depth and breadth of the projects we will honor with awards mirror the talent, skill and dedication that ACEC New York engineers bring daily to their work."
